Planning a trip to Crab Island and not sure what to pack for your day on the water? This popular Destin hotspot is known for its shallow emerald waters, floating restaurants, and vibrant social scene—making it one of the most unforgettable places to visit on the Emerald Coast. Whether you're heading out on a rental boat, charter, or shuttle, our 2025 Crab Island packing list will help ensure you're prepared for a fun, safe, and stress-free day on the sandbar.
Crab Island Packing List
Must-Haves
Towels
It may be obvious, but towels are essential. Whether you’re taking a dip in the shallow waters or stepping off on a nearby beach, a towel will help you dry off and keep sand off the boat seats.
Lotion Sunscreen
Protect your skin—even on overcast days. Please use lotion-based sunscreen instead of sprays, which can stain or damage boat upholstery.
Cash or Card for Crab Island Vendors
Crab Island is full of floating food boats and mobile vendors selling everything from snacks to souvenirs. While most vendors accept cards, it's wise to bring some cash just in case.
Sunglasses and a Hat
Even with shaded areas on the boat, the Florida sun is intense. A hat and sunglasses can make a big difference in staying cool and protected.
Cooler with Ice, Food, and Drinks
As of 2025, alcohol sales are not allowed on the water, but you are permitted to bring your own. Pack a cooler with drinks, snacks, and lunch unless you plan to buy from the vendors on-site.
Licenses (If Required)
If you were born on or after January 1, 1988, and plan to operate a rental boat, you’ll need a Florida Boater’s License. You can get a temporary one quickly here. Planning to fish? Make sure to have a valid fishing license—more details on that right here.
Optional but Helpful
Football or Frisbee
The shallow waters are perfect for tossing a ball or Frisbee around with friends or family.
Portable Charger
Don’t let a dead battery ruin your day. Keep your phone charged for emergencies—or to capture those Instagram-worthy moments. (Tag us at @destinboatrentals!)
Bluetooth Speaker
Even if your rental has a stereo, outdoor speakers can get weathered over time. A Bluetooth speaker can be a great backup for music and vibes.
Floaties and Extra Rope
Floating loungers or tubes are a fun way to relax in the water. Bring rope to secure them to your boat so they don’t drift away.
Trash Bags
It’s easy to generate more trash than expected during a day on the water. Bring a bag to keep things clean—and help protect our beautiful marine environment.
