It’s nearly mid-March and the weather is starting to warm up here in Destin as we head into spring. With Spring Break just beginning, it’s been nice to see the Destin Harbor come alive again as the charter boats head out regularly in the mornings and bring back their catches of the day in the afternoons. We’ve had some pretty gusty winds this past week, and that does limit the boats going out into the gulf at times due to rough seas. Luckily, there is still some excellent fishing to be had inshore as well here in the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village!
We’re headed into Cobia season, but still waiting on the first Cobia to hit the docks. In the meantime, out in the gulf, the amberjack are cooperating nicely as well as some vermillion snapper, which are starting to migrate in towards the beach.
Inshore, we’re seeing a good showing of trout and redfish in the grass flats and shallows on artificial lures like DOA’s and mirror lures. There are also quite a few good-sized sheephead making their way into the docks on a regular basis. This catch was brought in by Captain JT, whose group really slayed the redfish and sheephead today.
If you’d like to get in on the action, be sure to book a fishing charter with one of our captains or, for the more experienced fishermen, rent a fishing boat for the day. We also offer fishing pole and tackle rentals, and have bait and tackle for sale in our ship’s store. Contact us for more information!
