It’s official! The first Cobia of the season was weighed in in Destin yesterday, March 19th, at 44 lbs. We’re hearing many reports of them being seen from Destin to Pensacola, with another fish reportedly caught in Pensacola yesterday as well. Cobia typically show up when water temps hit 68 degrees, and their arrival is a good sign that Spring has sprung on the Emerald Coast!
The inshore bite remains strong, with plenty of Trout being caught in the bayous, and Redfish and Sheephead still biting around the bridges and structures. If you make your way into the Sound, you can find some Black Drum around the structures there as well.
Offshore, the wrecks and reefs continue to produce red snapper (not in season), vermillion snapper, white snapper, and amberjack.
Flounder should be coming back through the pass and back into the bayous in the coming weeks. The Spanish mackerel are starting to show up, so expect to see more of them as the water temps continue to rise as well.
